Save the Planet by Getting a Job
0 Comments Published June 27th, 2008 in Candidate, Career, Green/Earth Friendly, Professional Development, UncategorizedUnless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s a sure fire bet you have heard (over and over and over again) of the “going green” movement. Companies and organizations worldwide are recognizing the ever-important concept of sustainability and are each doing their part to ensure all aspects of our lives are earth friendly. So it should be no surprise that now you can show how “green” you are just by getting a job.
That’s right! Treehugger is site that has been built from the ground up into a community of earth friendly activists for the sole purpose of providing a one-stop shop to the general public for anything and everything “green.” On its site, the portal is described as the “leading media outlet dedicated to driving sustainability mainstream.” Visitors can find a wealth of information including green news, information and updates, products, guides to going green, forums, and even quizzes so that you can see just how green you are. It’s made such an impression that even Oprah Winfrey has touted its passion and effectiveness.
However, the most interesting thing I’ve found about Treehugger is not its writers’ unbelievable abilities to capture their zeal for the zaniest of earth friendly clothing, but the job board it features where employers can post openings for some of the greenest positions on earth. Every position within the job board expresses a need for environmentally-minded individuals, who, in each prospective position, would be helping save the planet through conscious effort.
Just a couple of brief excerpts of job descriptions taken from the site include:
“Provide research, writing and support on various consulting projects in the areas of green building and environmentally sustainable product manufacturing.”
“We are seeking an ambitious Office Manager to run office administration and operations in an environmentally sustainable yet scalable fashion. This role will assume all the responsibilities of a traditional assistant and office manager, but will be given the mandate to re-think the daily operations of an office and implement ways to run it in a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable fashion.”
“We are currently seeking a dependable, green-living, part-time associate…”
Check out Treehugger for more positions just like these. Get a job…save the planet!
