I just placed a candidate (we’ll call him Sam) with an amazing job with a great client. Not any new news in that. That’s my job after all. But what is more noteworthy is how Sam’s boss took the news when he gave his notice. Sam’s boss is the Divisional President of his company and [...]
I have three kids all under the age of 5. So you can imagine that my wife and I have very hectic lives on top of juggling work and our personal lives. But most recently, we have been having some issues with both our oldest son and daughter. They are both five – not [...]
Joshua Packwood knows what it’s like to be a minority. This weekend he’ll be the first white valedictorian to graduate from the historically black, all male Morehouse College in the school’s 141-year history. In 1948, Martin Luther King Jr graduated and I wonder what he would think about the 2008 valedictorian. He probably would think [...]
Millennials in the work place: Get used to them
0 Comments Published May 17th, 2008 in General, Human CapitalI was at a conference last month and had a conversation with a fellow Gen Xer who was telling me about their recent woes with a couple of 20 somethings at their company. She told me that her perception of recent college grads is that they expect way too much money without any experience. Well [...]
Republican running mate for Obama and thinking outside the box for your next hire
0 Comments Published May 15th, 2008 in Candidate, General, Human CapitalOn Chris Matthews Hardball the other night, Chris had a panel of pundits wondering if Barack Omaba was going to pick a Republican on his ticket. For the life of me, I cannot remember any candidate, Republican or Democrat ever having the pundits think that a person from the opposite party may be a great running mate. But it got me to thinking, that Chuck Hagel from Nebraska would be a great choice. He would help to unify the ticket with someone who is against the war and a moderate Republican. Although he is pro-life, I don’t think that would upset the Democratic apple cart too much, as I think he brings too much to the table.
Handwriting of Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama
0 Comments Published May 14th, 2008 in UncategorizedExperts see telltale markings of personality in penmanship samples from the presidential candidates. At our search firm we have been using handwriting analysis for years. I was surprised when I saw my own analysis. It was as if I told the person about myself. There is a lot of truth in these handwriting tests.read more [...]
AS anyone who has ever received a virtual Jagerbomb or fought off intergalactic cyber chickens knows, social-networking sites are designed to be entertaining. Yet sites like Facebook, Friendster and MySpace are evolving beyond their reputations as procrastinators’ Xanadus. Social networking sites are becoming more of the norm for professionals now. They are no longer the [...]
When you are in an interview, you naturally expect to be asked a wide range of questions. But did you also know that the interviewer expects you to ask questions as well? There is no set of rules on how many must be asked or their subject matter, just as long as you get the [...]
North Carolina Primary or North Carolina Popularity Contest?
0 Comments Published May 6th, 2008 in Candidate, General, Human CapitalOver the past several weeks leading up to today, North Carolina has been a major focus nationally because of the election primary that are taking place today. I cannot believe the grassroots efforts that I have been seeing over the past week. Just yesterday a woman was holding up a sign in support of Barrack [...]
Today’s candidate is tomorrow’s client
0 Comments Published May 5th, 2008 in Candidate, Human CapitalThat was one of the first things I was told when I got into the search business several years back. It was true then and rings true today even more. I am surprised at how many candidates I talk to that tell me of their bad experiences with recruiters and how they often will not [...]
